Week two!

Lectures, challenges, exercises, and practice sessions, I love this studying thing! at least that's what I'm saying now while the work load is still rather small! :)

We've had several exercises/assignments this week, we had to take pictures of specific objects, or pictures in specific settings, first focus being depth of field.

Next we had to experiment with wide angle shots and telephoto close ups to see how the pictures told different stories.

Wide angle shots tell a story about the person and their surroundings and are primarily used in photojournalism. 

Telephoto lens shots speak more about the person and fade the background out.

Our next task was "No Chimping". In other words we had to turn off our auto-review and take pictures without looking at the LCD screen and without knowing what they came out like. This is part of getting to know our cameras and trust the settings we've learnt to always give us a certain look to our pictures.

That's all for this week and now we have term break! and yes I know it's only our second week of uni and we're getting a break!? why!? cause we're just cool like that! :)

First week of photography school!

And so it begins. A year of intense work and creativity. 

What should have started two months ago, began four day's ago due to Christchurch's recent devastating earthquake. Finally life is starting to get back to normal, and I couldn't be happier.

So here (if I have time) I will keep you up to date on how things are going.

So for our first challenge we had to team up with another classmate and take several black and white pictures of each person focusing on contrast.

Our next exercise was to practice white balance while encompassing 'Campus life'

Our next challenge was teams of 4-6 and doing something creative with hi-vis vests. After all, hi-vis is the new black!

Cold didn't seem so much of an issue after jumping long enough to get a good shot!

I just had to add this one as she stood there for a minute with the shutter open and only her face is a wee bit fuzzy, what a champ!

 

As these were my two first shoots as a photographer, I'm sad to say there weren't as many good photos as opportunities but I am determined to do my models justice so there will be plenty more coming your way in the future!
